Ssssort of. They're AIs in that they have some leeway in what they choose to do, but they're somewhat limited in scope. And breadth. And... Well, I don't want my babies to hear the word that means impaired but, sometimes... [ Theatrically significant trailing off. But he's still working, even after he shrugs to finish the show. ]

[ Okay, that gets a laugh out of her, amused. Even in the middle of whatever mess this is, she can't lose her sense of humor. ] They're cute, though. [ Still poking around, but now she's circling back towards the suits. ] So what are you? What's this armor for?

[ Good. He'd be doing it really wrong if he couldn't get her to laugh even a little bit after a while. ] Me. It helps if you're flying around to be encased in a suit of armor. You know, sometimes you get hit by an F16, sometimes you need to tackle some bad guy, it's just how it goes.

[ Max at any age likes laughing, and the younger she is the less she's surprised at laughing at any given moment. ] You can fly in that? [ color her very very interested. ] That's not subtle enough for vigilante. Superhero, I guess?

Hey, check-it, got it in one. I can totally fly in that. I can fly everywhere in that. [ Idle tap of the reactor casing through his shirt. That's what makes him fly everywhere. ] I am Iron Man. A superhero.

[ Glancing at the reactor and filing that away on the list of things to consider asking about. It still looks interesting. Cybernetics? ] Iron Man, huh? A suit that big - [ wait no this is not a time to actually make terrible jokes. She trails off with a grin and ducks her head. ] So what's she do, if you're off flying?

[ What ] While I'm out? I mean, her independence isn't dependent entirely on me. [ Pause. ]

Well, yeah, of course not, I'm just curious - [ well that's not any help at all. ] Does she still have a night job?

When she feels like it, yeah. As far as I know. Normally we don't really like it when the other one goes off by themselves.

[ Seriously she can't figure out what the hell sort of arrangement future her and this guy have and on top of the dissonance of having nobody on the other side of her bond it's starting to drive her crazy. She just wants to understand what's going on here. ] Protective instinct, but that's.

[ This obviously frustrated gesture with her arm. ]

Any of this. What I'm doing here, why I'm with you, where John is, what happens in the next ten years that I wind up here -

[ Okay, he'll stop what he's doing, sort of lean on the edge of the table a little and consider that, because it's not like he wouldn't want answers in her situation. It's just too bad he doesn't actually know any of these answers. ]

I don't know how to make it make sense. I don't know what happened, just that it... was more or less an accident.

[ Well, the paying attention mollifies her a little bit, even if now she feels a little bit silly for that whole outburst. She knows she's got reason to be frustrated, but she tries to be at least a little calmer about it generally.

Accident really doesn't sound too promising. ] I guess it's not important. Or at least not now, I just. [ Urgh. ] It just doesn't say anything good about my immediate future, so -

I guess I should be figuring out how to get back. That's more important.

[ It's okay he looks back down at the table for a little bit even if he doesn't start using it again yet. ]

Well. I can't help with that - the immediate future - too much, but I know you seem pretty... Okay, here. You seem happy. Ish. Enough, I mean.

[ Whatever. That's enough feelings crap. He looks back up at her, claps his hands once, enough to echo around the workshop and fall silent again. ] Excellent, time travel. Always wanted to figure out how that works. How do you feel about being scanned with everything I can think of?

[ Looking progressively more unconvinced. That many qualifiers needed for happy doesn't really seem great to her, bro. ]

Scans are all good. Scan away. Try not to bring too much radiation into it, I hear that gives you superpowers and I'm really fine with my current skillset.

[ Well, he tried, he just hit a roadblock in the form of not actually knowing for sure and all those doubts he has about whether or not he actually does make her happy and everything like that. It's so natural to leave his shields at half mast around her. ]

MY scans are fine. No radiation in here. Actually I think that would interfere with me and I don't particularly enjoy that. I'll just start with the normal ones and go from there.

[ She appreciates the trying, at least, but she doesn't know about his self-esteem issues in regards to whether he makes her happy. Not yet, at least. ]

Right. Okay. Just tell me where to go.

Uh, you can actually just, stay there for the first few. Basic scans, not-basic [ wide, vague gesture to the room ] house. [ And then moving to get started on them, actually. ] You hungry or anything? Dummy loves making smoothies. Sometimes they're even edible.

[nyktelios]

Right, okay then, I'll just. [ rocking forward onto the balls of her feet for a moment before landing back on her heels. ] Stay right here. Food does sound good, yeah. I could do food.

[fe_male]

[ Oh, well. ] You can actually, I mean, you can move around the shop, that's fine, just don't leave the room. The scanners are in here in this house. By food do you mean real food or Dummy food - [ whirling around to point at Dummy, already by the sink with the blender full of things. ] - Ah ah ah! Pause! [ Back over his shoulder at her. ] Just depends.

[nyktelios]

It's a pretty fancy house. [ Just commenting, a little confused, and then she does move after all, towards another bench, trailing her hand along it as she eyes the work on it. ] Dummy food sounds like it would be fun. At least for the risk factor.

That's one opinion. [ Back to Dummy, who's been inching towards the blender again anyway. ] Okay, but if there's oil of any kind, you're not getting any for a week. [ Back to the displays, okay awesome. Time to start some scans. ] JARVIS, basic run-down, whatever doesn't require physical samples yet.

[nyktelios]

[ Just kind of side eyeing Dummy in interest and amusement. Robots with at least some awareness, that is always cool. ] Why would he feed me oil? Is that a thing he actually does? [ And sort of glancing up and around as if halfway expecting to see things that'll indicate how the scans are working or where they're coming from. ]

[fe_male]

He gets a little mixed up sometimes, what's edible for us, what's vital for him, you know. [ Shrug. ] Just make sure you ask JARVIS to check whatever glass of stuff Dummy hands you before you drink it, okay?

[ If she wants to look for them, there are little lines of light occasionally from corners, very fast, she might not notice them, but if she does, it's simply because she's far more observant than most people, even so young. ]
