She just doesn't know what to do with people caring enough to be angry that that was her life, because she's become accustomed to the reality of it and the fact that there wasn't a choice. It was just a thing, it happened, she had to deal with it so she did. And everyone else did too, so it didn't make sense for others to get angry about it. Even if she'd had anyone willing to. John had, still, sometimes, but that had always been tainted by how he'd abandoned her to try to achieve her not having to deal with it. So this is something that at once feels nice but she doesn't really know how to respond to at all.
