[ Her mouth twitches up a little as she turns her face into him, expression melting into a wince for a moment when she shifts the rest of her body to follow without thinking before she settles again. ]

You totally did fix it. Did I say thank you? But you're still being really mean now, I'm definitely quiet and good at sneaking.

[ Just casually pretending to neither notice that wince, nor the accelerated beating of her heart as the brain registered the pain, nor the smell of her endocrine system's response, nor anything else that would indicate such a banal thing as 'pain'. ]

I don't actually remember, so I'll say that now you have, and no big. I needed a guinea pig anyway. [ 8D ] We'll see about that last bit when you're back on your feet though.

[ He's the best Tony, and now she's half on him, one arm slung across his stomach, and she's happy with the warmth and his arm and everything. Well, not everything, she's still dissatisfied with herself in a lot of different ways, but she can shove those under for now, not think about them until she's alone and knows she won't broadcast anything on accident. For now, this is enough. ]

Nice to know my health matters so much. [ But she says it mildly, a little amused. ] I could be on my feet right now if I wanted. And we will see. Or you won't see until I'm right there.

[ If she seems unsettled at all, or still reserved to a degree, he'll likely just blanket her in his own shields and keep everything quiet. Better than anything else he can do, anyway. ]

Faith in your ability to be healthy, that's how you should be looking at it. And in my own ability to be right all the time. Also I'd like to just carve out a moment here to remind you that I technically have a heart condition, so you turning into some sort of ninja all of a sudden would be unappreciated. Unless you come bearing fruit, and no surprises.

[ Really she'll probably be generally reserved in some ways for a little while here, because that was jarringly unexpectedly unpleasant. But she'll do her best not to be obvious about it, and she'll appreciate the shields. ]

Why do you have faith in my ability to be healthy? That's totally unjustified. [ she huffs out a silent laugh. ] I bet I can come up with surprises you won't mind.

I did say part of it was also faith in my ability to be basically omniscient too, so. [ Hip nudges are easy when you're both lying down next to each other/sort of on top of-slash-under each other. ] That a promise?

[motherofnemesis]

You're totally not omniscient. [ And they're casually reassuringly nice, too. She exhales audibly, lets the last tension drain from her body. ] I can make it one, if you want.

How do you know? Are you omniscient? [ He feels that tension leave and for one moment feels like he's doing things okay, sometimes. Like he's handling her and situations and stuff the way he's supposed to be. It's nice. She loses her tension, he gets some esteem, and they can both settle down a little more comfortably. ] Oh, I totally want it to be one, yes.

[motherofnemesis]

I don't have to be omniscient to know that you're not, okay. You can't build a fire. [ He should be taking esteem out of that whole accomplishment. Her experience with injuries and such has been the sort to make them freak her out quite a lot, and she's fairly certain if he wasn't here right now she wouldn't be handling this whole thing too well at all. ] Okay, it's a promise. Surprises you won't mind at all, I'm thinking of some.

What the hell does building a fire have to do with omniscience? I know how to build a fire. I can totally make a fire. [ He was in like a summer crash course boy scout troupe with one other dude in the Middle East and he got pretty good at making fires. js ] You do that. I'll think of ways to make sure I don't have a heart attack, just in case.

Omniscience is about knowing everything. You tried to convince me you could build a fire ages ago, but I won't believe you until you prove it. [ Won't believe it until she sees it, really. Just because. ] I'm not going to give you a heart attack, promise.

[ Normal people would have a pause to place this conversation but because he's Tony Stark, he doesn't need it. Hell yeah. ] Seriously, do I need to actually get up and build you a fire right now? I'm still insulted you don't think I can do the most basic of human achievements.

[motherofnemesis]

[ No don't threaten to get up she really doesn't want that. ] You can build me a fire tomorrow. Or anytime I can come with you. Not now. No moving now. [ Importance is the mother of repetition, and of holding onto his hand a little tighter. ] Lots of people can't make fire, it's nothing to be ashamed of.

[ Don't worry, he got your oh-so-subtle hint and isn't going anywhere. Besides. He's comfy here too. ] I'm not ashamed of it, because I can make fire. And I also just have, you know, a criminally small amount of shame in general. I don't need to be wasting it on a nonessential skill.

[motherofnemesis]

[ She is so subtle. The subtlest! She's proud of it. ] Criminal is right. Are you ashamed of anything? [ Genuinely curious, if quietly absent minded. ]

Of course not. [ Of course he is. ] What do I have to be ashamed of? Being too good-looking? Too smart? Too awesome? Please.

[motherofnemesis]

[ She should call bullshit right now, and she's like three seconds less tired from doing so, so just give her a moment to squint up at him unconvinced before she says anything. ] Too cocky?

Haven't had any complaints so far. I imagine someone would have complained by this point if it was too much for them. [ 'It'. js. And yes, he's not going to give you a straight answer about this. Not unless you directly ask for one. ]

[motherofnemesis]

[ Face, again, because really. And she may not be her usual on top of things self, but he's not actually doing that great a job of deflecting, here. ] You're beating around the question.

[fe_male]

[ His face right now has because mildly guarded, although it's mostly saying 'are we seriously getting into this. really.' ] Of course I am. [ Now whether that's about beating around the question or if he has any shame or embarrassment, is up to her. ]

[motherofnemesis]

[ Man now she's torn between the not liking his face going guarded and that she's just off enough to be willing to go after the answers she wants. ] Why?

[ He will tell her, if she asks, he's just not going to tell her if she doesn't. And then she does ask, and his breath slides out of him. ] Why what?

[motherofnemesis]

[ She pushes a little bit closer to him, arm across him solid. She's not going anywhere no matter how he answers it. ] Why are you ashamed of whatever it is you're ashamed of?

[ The gesture feels simultaneously comforting and confining. And that... That's kind of an out. He doesn't have to say what it is, specifically, but just the impact. He can probably manage that. After a few moments of silence as he pieces the wording together very carefully, at least. ] Their memories didn't need that. I should have just grown up.
