[ Was it late? In this beautiful 'city that never sleeps', it almost always feels as if the night had just begun. The veil of night was like an open invitation for those who knew how to best operate it, and the rising of the sun simply served as a clear signal to switch gears. However tonight was a job, just like any other job, only this time a fairly attractive man with a flair for the dramatic and apparently aromatic foods.
Without lifting her head from her phone, she continued tapping away. She walked a few paces behind him, and to the left. There was a good average distance between the two, with the only thing really to draw attention to her being the neon pink wig she seemed to have dawned for just this occasion. She walked in all black. Turtleneck, long sleeve. Long black leather jacket with black pants and boots to match. She even wore gloves. Surely, it was a bit out of place, the entire get up, but it was hers.
She kept her distance as she spoke up, voice calm and without wavering. ]
I appreciate the offer, but I'm quite full. I don't take candy or fries, from strangers. You've heard about stranger danger, haven't you? I'd be truly perplexed to hear that you haven't.
Though, we could change that and become quite known to one another. With dark and dangerous nights like these, sometimes you need a friend.
[ huh. not quite the response he was expecting, but whatever. ]
Sorry, but thanks. Maybe like, ten years ago though. Kinda got a good thing going now.
[ he glances over his shoulder to approximately where he heard the voice emanate from and is promptly reminded of whatever the cell phone addicted assist in that sherlock holmes show was named. ]
So why is MI5 or whoever you are on my tail? Can I at least finish my dinner before I get deep sixed?
[ She smiles to herself at his witty wordcrafting. She put her phone away and went digging into her bag at her side. Still holding up her end of the conversation. ]
Surely, you don’t think me a home wrecker, Mr. Stark. Pepper is a lovely woman, and I have truly enjoyed her company on multiple occasions, whether she was aware of the time shared or not.
[ She kept her eyes forward now. One leather hand on the strap of her bag with the other at her side. ]
No need for alarm, mind you. I wouldn’t want to get in your way one bit. I simply need access to your workshop, nothing more. I’d say we could call this short arrangement even then. I save your life, you save mine. I mean, what are newfound friends for?
I think I'm still good, actually. Not too sure I feel like inviting my girlfriend's stalker over for some quality bonding time. Plus I'm not sure if you were aware or anything, but I'm kind of a hero - there's a certain amount of being able to take care of yourself that's sorta implied with all that.
[ it's all still a friendly enough chat for the moment, but he's definitely a little more alert in general than he was a few minutes ago. he knows when he became aware of being followed, but he's casting back through his memories to see if he can piece it further back to recall precisely how long she's actually been doing it. ]
[ He may recall a woman in the lobby of Stark Industries in all white. He may have also seen a woman at the Shawarma place wearing all blue. But alas, New York is a colorful city, full of all walks of life and fashion trends. It could have been her, sure, but who can say for sure?
Regardless, the woman herself is thinking about about what she was informed of with this man of scientific mystery and wit. It's not like her higher ups didn't tell her that this job would be hard... Or more so the target would be hard to sway into submission, but she was quick to think that everyone had a tell and had their circumstances for change. Perhaps she could figure that out with him. ]
The term 'stalker' is a bit harsh, дорогой. I, too, prefer the term 'hero', but... I know there's always two sides to that coin and I ride the margin pretty easily. Hero in one story, villain in the other.... It's tricky business.
I am simply a concerned equal if you must title me. Someone who is aware that your home is about to become burglarized or at least, an attempt will be made, and that we should get there, as soon as possible. I was going to be a silent partner in this, since... I don't truly need the recognition, but since you're more perceptive than I seemed to give you credit for, I suppose introductions are somewhat in order.
[ She didn't speed up to meet his pace, no, but she did look over her shoulder before looking ahead. She scanned the area, pulling her dark shades down to showcase those emerald eyes before hiding them again. ]
There should be an alleyway up ahead to the left, but then again, I'm sure we could find a nice bench to catch up and chat.
By my records, we have about an hour and thirty minutes to do so.
