CHARACTER
NAME: Anthony Edward Stark.
CANON: MCU.
CANON-POINT: AOU I GUESS :|
DOSSIER
HISTORY: I love having a popular canon.
WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S STRENGTHS?: Tony's intelligence is pretty much a given, but it's typically the methods in which he utilizes it that wind up making him such a defining figure. He's remarkably adept at analysing his environment and manipulating it to suit his immediate needs, be that with people or objects. The former comes from a lifetime growing up on camera and in the press, the latter from an almost instinctual mechanical understanding of how things operate. Beyond that, his skills mostly lie in learning (sometimes slowly) from his mistakes, and being able to see multiple moving parts within the whole and how they will most likely come together at some point.
WHAT ARE YOUR CHARACTER'S WEAKNESSES?: Where do I begin. Self-destructive behaviour, a general sense of knowing he's right being conflated with thinking he's right just because he usually is (I guess 'arrogance' is the shorter way of saying that...), a relative inability to accurately gauge his own value as a person. Tony falls into some of the same trappings that other highly intelligent people are stereotypically known to run into, but his complicated relationship with emotions in general tends to trip him up a lot. As his storyline within the MCU progresses, more and more of his actions are motivated by anxiety thinly veiled under rational thinking, and it takes him forever to realise this. Like. A ten year old kid meets him and within a couple hours is all "Do you have medication? Do you need to be on it? Are you okay???"
WHAT EVENTS OR CIRCUMSTANCES IN YOUR CHARACTER'S PAST HAVE IMPACTED THEM THE MOST?: I feel like watching Obadiah Stane rip the arc reactor out after acting like a father figure to him for the last four decades is probably like super high up there. His parents dying young is also v important. Also going out on a limb and saying that his kidnapping in Afghanistan probably had a large impact on his overall life trajectory, not just because of the whole kidnapping thing but because of the pure shock that the things he was building almost frivolously, for money and fun and whatever sure to protect American soldiers, were being used on innocent people and the results were horrifying in person. Joining the Avengers in general, dying for a year or so and not telling anyone, accidentally building an army of evil robots (he will say he didn't but don't think for a second he doesn't take the guilt and responsibility on anyway).
WHAT MOTIVATES YOUR CHARACTER?: From the get go, Tony is motivated by a fun combination of desire to do not necessarily good but more specifically at least better, to pursue the feeling that he finally has some kind of true purpose, hilarious levels of retroactive guilt, and then later, you guessed it! A bit more anxiety.
WHAT IMPRESSION DO OTHERS TEND TO HAVE OF YOUR CHARACTER?: He intentionally allows and perpetuates elements of the persona developed prior to becoming Iron Man; i.e., the playboy billionaire who dgaf about what other people think. Usually that's just when he's having some sort of personal crisis, but then again when the fuck isn't he. Look at his life and his choices. Lately (read: Post-Iron-Man) certain elements are played up or dialled back as is in keeping with a somewhat more responsible individual, although he still sort of likes having that kind of social armor to fall back on when needed. There's also an element of like. Different people get different versions of him here and there, but I think that bleeds more into the following question.
IN WHAT WAYS DOES THAT IMPRESSION DIFFER FROM WHO YOUR CHARACTER REALLY IS?: In that certain people do get a more genuine version of Tony. Pepper and Rhodey get the most organic, 100% certified, genuine Tony Stark™ the most often, and even they don't get it all the time. Everyone else tends to get some facet or form of him that's not quite the same. It's a little difficult to pin down specifically who he is in reality vs who he is as a figure given that element of an almost transient nature, but in general he tends to feel things much more than he lets on, and he is motivated by such things just as much as anyone else, even if he also wouldn't indicate it. Or might actively try to argue otherwise. He does care what people think of him, and he does want the approval or whatever of certain people, although if he doesn't get it he's probably still going to be like 'well fu too then pal i'mma do it anyway wATCH ME'
HOW DOES YOUR CHARACTER HANDLE CRISIS OR ADVERSITY?:
Sort of like... A relatively popular rock star with That One Really Popular Song. It's good for a while and then they get tired of it and handle it less well and then they hate it and won't go near it and then they come back around and accept that it's just going to be there so they might as well get on with it since it's what everyone wants from them anyway.
WHICH 5 THINGS WILL YOUR CHARACTER REMEMBER UPON ARRIVAL, AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THEM?: 1. pile of dead friends? +guilt feelings
2. best friend pushed him into a pool that one time at MIT (not canonical but i dare you to tell me that didn't happen when they were younger)
3. kissing hot ginger on a roof in the Iron Man Mk VI while things are on fire??
4. low-grade technology is actually almost physically insulting and maybe life threatening?? It gives him this pressurey knot in his chest
5. V STRONG feelings abt steve rogers???? good????? bad??????? HE CAN'T TELL. (steve rogers is clearly ex-bf is the only logical conclusion)
Phone editing, awesome. Anyway, chosen partially to make me laugh, partally bc pepper and Rhodey have both been hugely defining influences in his life, partially bc it would be nice to play him happy for a change before all his other memories show back up, and partially just to confuse the hell out of him.
IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU FEEL WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER?:

summary answers for 'impression others get', 'how does that differ', and 'handling adversity'.
SKILLS, ABILITIES, & PHYSICAL WEAKNESSES: Tony has literally a genius level intellect, and is known in his own canon to be one of the greatest minds in the world. He graduated at seventeen summa cum laude from MIT, and pretty much immediately started revolutionizing weapons design. He built the first Iron Man suit in a cave out of parts from missiles and other weapons he had already designed, yadda yadda, don't leave him alone with a machine and a screwdriver if you want him to still be there when you get back.
Additionally, he speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French, and Dari, and probably Japanese as well considering the business he's in and how easily he seems to pick things up – he definitely didn't speak Dari before he had his three month deep cave exfoliation experience, and he didn't have a lot of time to pick it up when he came back. He's an expert businessman, being responsible for turning Stark Industries into the relative conglomerate that it is, and related to that is a very good tactician in general. His expertise in various kinds of science is frankly annoying, and the bullshit he can do with computer programming is also irritating in general. To date, he seems to be the only person who has ever created a fully-realised, autodidactic artificial intelligence. And he's done it more than once.
Finally, physically Tony has learned to defend himself outside the suit to at least some degree. I think he lasted a whole eight seconds against the Winter Soldier before he got tossed on his ass, which is a huge improvement from when we first meet him in IM1. He will never have the hand to hand skills that many of his teammates do, but in general he's not bad. His skills as a pilot and marksman are much better though, so basically give the guy a weapon, please.
Because really he gets beat up all the time. His biggest weakness is probably his apparent disregard for his own safety, imo, but more practically it's that he's a forty-plus year old human being. He's very squishy, and he's not even prime youth like all you youngsters.
INVENTORY: Clothes and uh. A fondue stick, idk. His phone? something with JARVIS on it, even if JARVIS isn't actually on it here bc he's not connected to his servers. I'm flexible just let him keep his buttons please
